Information on the nutritional content of food is key to helping individuals take control of eating healthy meals. Now that information is available to students who enjoy lunch in Pattonville's school cafeterias and their parents, thanks to a collaboration between Chartwells School Dining Services and Pattonville food services staff.

Chartwells recently launched a new website called Nutrislice ( that provides lunch menus for each of Pattonville's schools along with nutritional content such as calories, fat and fiber for each item on the menu.

"It allows parents to see the nutrition information for their student's Pattonville menu, carbohydrate counts, allergy information, pictures of the food, etc.," said Bridget Jordan, food service director for Chartwells at Pattonville. "It is a great program."

Jordan, along with food service coordinator Julie Purviance, worked with the lead cooks and cafeteria managers at the schools to ensure the information was accurate and up-to-date.

"The school food service staff have to follow recipes, use the correct product and serve the correct portion in order to ensure the accuracy of the information," Jordan said. "They are up to the challenge and have done a great job."

The nutritional content also takes into account special dietary considerations and shows if the food item contains possible allergens such as milk, soy, wheat or nuts.

"The website supports families as they learn about and use nutrition information in a healthy way. It's also great for families who have special needs related to food allergies," Jordan said. "It's an excellent tool for parents, students and staff."

Parents can also view nutrition content for Pattonville's lunch options customized by school by downloading the Nutrislice app from the Google Play or iTunes app stores and searching inside the app for the Pattonville School District.
