Students from Pattonville School District participated in the Missouri National Education Association’s (MNEA) Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Essay-Poster Contest. The theme for this year was “Fulfilling Dr. King’s Dream: Reading to Lead and Transform.” Four students placed in the state competition after winning at the district level.
On Feb. 21, the Pattonville community came together for the third district Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP) meeting. The meeting began with district updates and an overview of the district CSIP plan, which was approved by the Pattonville Board of Education on Feb. 14.
Families with children who plan to attend kindergarten during the 2023-2024 school year should enroll their child during kindergarten registration, set for March 1 through 3. The Pattonville Board of Education on Feb. 14 approved an updated strategic plan for the district following a months-long process involving parents, students, community members, staff and area leaders. The plan, or CSIP (Comprehensive School Improvement Plan), focuses on ensuring all students become success-ready graduates and planning for and addressing any critical issues that may arise in the areas of facilities, finances, safety and staffing. Each school provided feedback on the district CSIP plan and met independently to create a building plan. Those are expected to be completed at the Feb. 21 district CSIP meeting. Retired astronaut Robert (Bob) Behnken, Class of 1988, received the Congressional Space Medal of Honor from vice president Kamala Harris on Jan. 31. Behnken received the award for bravery in NASA’s SpaceX Demonstration Mission-2 (Demo-2) to the International Space Station in 2020. On May 30, 2020, a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carrying the company’s Crew Dragon spacecraft launched to the space station, marking the first mission to launch with astronauts as part of NASA’s Commercial Crew Program. As a space station crew member for 62 days, Behnken performed four spacewalks with former NASA astronaut Chris Cassidy and contributed more than 100 hours to the orbiting laboratory’s scientific investigations. Behnken received the honor along with former astronaut Douglas Hurley. They are the first honorees since 2006 to receive this honor.
